Titled "A tiger by the tail " by Derek Wood who was director back in the 1960s or 1970s . It is a very readable book on the history of Auckland Zoo , with some photos , cartoons , etc .

The only problem is that it was written about 20 years ago , just as the zoo was about to do its major expansion/redevelopment . The zoo doesnt look anything like it ( what the book portrays ) nowadays .

If it is out of print , the Auckland Zoos shop may still have some copies of it for sale .

I've read it and I thought it was very good.

It was so sad reading about Rajah the elephant.

I really enjoyed reading about the orangutan's the zoo has now when they were younger and had just moved into their new enclosure in 1987.
