Talking Exciting New Lion Enclosure
Old 11-07-2008

Does anyone know any information about the new lion enclosure Orana Wildlife Park have built recently.

I know they currently have six lions:

Lioness Pricilla and her three cubs Ra (born 2002) and Leah and Meeka (born 2004)

and

Lioness Kiara and her three cubs Kahn, Sakura and Mishka (born 2003)

I have heard they plan to import a male lion for breeding purposes in the next year or so...

The new lion enclosure is a big improvement on the old one, makes the keepers job a lot easier as well as more comfortable for the lions.

Orana park castrates their male lions, advantages are that it keeps them docile and prevents them from fighting and getting stroppy with the girls.
But the big disadvantage is they lose their manes, so at first glance they look like big lionesses.
It would be great to see a maned lion at Orana Park, after all lions are what they are famous for.
