How does anyone feel about the use of tax payer funds to build a wildlife hospital at Australia Zoo?

How about the use of "Wildlife Warrior" funds?

Seems to me for the government to put 2.5 million into this and then take 2.5 million from donated funds that could be better served for in situ projects is wrong.

I would make the assumption that there would be a couple of research projects being conducted, and treatment and care of Australia zoo animals.

I wonder if any other Queensland facilities can bring animals for treatment at the zoo. Since taxpayers are footing the bill......

A couple of research projects? Have you seen the size of this thing?

Some of my thoughts. It will also be a tertiary education centre (for vetinary students from all over queensland presumably) - that gets a star
-turtle rehab centre - another star
- six star green rating - a buidling that not only will be enviromently friendly but will show that it can be done - star for that

I'm all for it.

I am sure that it is large. I just wonder about the use of non- Australia zoo funding. Currumbin is also building a wildlife hospital and was declined by the QLD government for support. They have been soliciting donations specifically for that. I would make the assumption that donations to Wildlife Warriors would be going to in-situ needs, not also towarsd a facility that treats there own collection as well.

correct me if i'm wrong but whilst the facility would no doubt treat the zoos own animal collection, would it not predominantly be treating thousands of wild native animals per year as well? thus, would it not be unfair to look at the project as if it is of a purely commercial nature?

rehabilitating and releasing wild animals is a pretty important conservation cause to me - what sort of projects do you think taxpayer money would be better spent on jmac?

I iamgine there are many valuable projects that 2.5 million tax payer dollars could be applied to. Bilby conservation gets very little and well as most other native wildlife issues.

I do question the ascertain that "thousands" of injured animals will be rehabilitated and relased.

I still ask the question about why not support Currumbin and their wildlife hospital?

why not support australia zoo's? what makes one private enterprise any more deserving of taxpayer funding than another?

who cares us tax payers are paying for it, thousands of animals a year will be treated, there will be the buiggest turtle and kloala rehad centre, and it will be the largest wildlife hos[ital in the world!

i am guessing the other vet centre will treat maybe exotics, and the zoos collection, and this new centre all wildlife?

The new animal Hospital should be online in June, treating over 6000 animals per year
