Questions
Old 28-08-2008

What is going on up near the entrance? The koala encounter between the platypus house and Aussie walkthrough has been demolished. Why? What's going there?

The south american Macaw's and conures are gone. So have the agouti's. Where are they now? ( replaced with musk lorikeets and superb parrots in the conure avairy and glossy black cockies in the macaw avairy.)

The old seal theater has been demolished. What is going there? ( Maybe they could expand the gorilla yard.)

Where are the cassowarries that the zoo got last year?

Why is the big old Rainforest avairy closed?

Where are the Aldabra Tortioses?
Sorry for all the questions. I couldn't find any zoo staff to ask.

With the demolition of the old seal theatre, there is a large chunk of the zoo now empty. From the de brazzi guenons right through the old seal theatre and penguin pool and through the two old avaries across from the old elephant temple there is nothing. There is also nothing above the old seal theatre except empty seal pools and nothing across from it where the old gibbon lived in the fig tree. Does anyone know what is going in this area. i know the pools are to stay but what about the rest of the area? Could it be possible to expand the gorilla exhibit from the de brazzis down through the old seal theatre area?

no idea mate whats going on with any of your questions. the grapevine has been a bit quiet of late.
to anyone like us who follow the activities of the zoo Taronga seems positively flush with cash, as it seems to upgrade then close displays all the time. i know the zoo is constantly evolving but i hate the way its development goes in patches; there are times when the zoo seems 'finished' then at other times you go and there are gaping holes in the exhibit collection or lack of representation.
hopefully the macaws go back on display shortly, and id like to see the cassowary on display soon too. maybe, just maybe, that what is happening. on a side note, didnt the zoo just fix the roof on the second koala encounters about a year ago? and now theyve ripped it down.

I am planing a visit to taronga zoo late next month. So when did it become $39.00 adult entry???
This makes the place a exclusive club not a family destination!

Bad Sydney Bad!!!!

Is this the most expensive City Zoo in the world??

Using public transport gets you a 15% discount on entry and as there is very little parking out front its the way to go.

The topgate was or is part of the masterplan. Unfortunately I think alot of people may disagree to what will happen up here. I wont say what, except that the new topgate will be designed to bring more people into the zoo. I havent seen what has happened yet and I might be a little sad when I do. Even If ive known about it for 6 months Heres hoping that the finished gate achieves what it is suppose to.

That is due to the startings of the top gate redevelopment

They have moved to the "bird house" facility in the service area, to the left of the ostrich yard, continues down to the bird house

Was closed for normal work to keep it in good condition and to replace alot of the damaged mesh that had been chewed by the birds, it has now re-opened

They are in the yard, just whether they are out in the yard or in the house depends on the weather, they love their raised heated platforms. (raised all of 15cms)
