It would be nice if Aust zoo were to import some new females in time for this group

I understand the rhinos will go direct en route to Brisbane. As to candidates from Werribee just read my post from late Feb. in the forum. I predict that next to Watoto both Ganini and Swazi from Werribee will form a bachelor herd at Australia Zoo.

What I would like to know is where the rhinos will be kept since the savannah exhibit is only due for 2009 (or is it already off the drawing board and being built as we speak?)? What purpose-built (off) exhibit will be used for the rhinos for the intermittent period?

Perhaps MARK can clarify the plans for Australia Zoo for us (being that close)?

Jelle, On their website they said work on the Africa exhibit should start in 09

I am quite sad because I was visiting as he was growing up and now to see him go is really annoying and sad for me, and also it was the first bred in SA.

Look at it this way, his sire will not want him around once he reaches three years of age so going to another home is good for both of them, also he may end up having his own herd at Aust zoo in the furture

I was wandering; Do rhino's even form batchelor herds in the wild? Or will this be more like two male rhinos in an enclosure together that don't really get along.

See every one told you so told you so? why did u all doubt me... have i now proved myself a valid member of zoo beat, altough im not here 7 dys per week - i do try and put as much new info as i know up here for you guys.... and i enjoy reading others posts.... talk soon dudes

nobody did doubt you - well except myself regarding the transfer of the male from mareeba (which you were incidentally wrong about)

it was fairly common knowledge, so nothing to doubt really. You don't build rhino facilities, and arrange the transfer of three rhinos to a zoo without lots of planning, and lots of people being involved.
