What a great forum Zoobeat is and hats off to the creator Sim and the team.

Not only are the posts informative and of a subject. Many of us l feel dont get the oportunity to discuss. At length with our circle of friends.Mine just seem to glaze over after 5minutes ;]

Its the links people post that are also fantastic. I just found a link that was posted. It lead me to find a company that makes models of exhibits!

Gaugemaster - Faller, We Model the World

Thanks to Bongo and CZJimmy

I know exactly what you mean.

Most of my friends believe that a zoo is just somewhere you take your kids for a bit of entertainment and that cameras are only for taking photos of people

Try talking to them abouts the merits of a enclosures desing! Or how much enrichment is provided.

Very tempted to go to my sister to upload my pics butt will wait for another couple of weeks and my problem here will be fixed.

I can talk for hours about gorilla enclosure design and enrichment!! Just usually to mysel ;]

What is it that we like so much about zoos?
is it the fact of keeping animals in captivity?
is it the ever changing face of a zoological collection?
is it the conservation work or scientific work of a zoo?
is it the variety of animals in one place?
What is it?

In an ideal world we would not have zoos, but they are here, they are doing an invaluable job and that is why we support them so wholeheartedly!

I think this sums it up for me completely - I would prefer there to not be a need for zoos ... but unfortunately we do need them because of the degradation or loss of the natural habitat of many animals, and poaching of others.

I'm not generally in favour of zoos built just for the entertainment value - although I am more pragmatic about it than some and acknowledge the financial benefit of attracting visitors which can help in conservation efforts.

To me, the end goal has always got to be about conservation - and education is an important part of that aim.
