Do you know if this was a mature animal when it came from Edinburgh, and roughly how old he is? Any other details about his history?

Can you give any details, e.g. sex ratio of the group of Liontailed Macaque at Belfast? Any other information, e.g. age, relatedness would be interesting too.

This was probably around the time when the addax were meant to be going to Chester, their paddock would be an excellent area for gaur and maybe a deer species to be mixed with them, although the planned for house for the Indian rhino is to be built further up the hill, and i think it would be better if they do get gaur they are housed close to the rhino.

yeah i do agree! theres a chance they might mix short-clawed otters with their rhino in the new enclosure!

plus maybe the gaur belong in the forest 'biome' rather than the grasslands one! i know they are talking about sloth bear so maybe they will be housed close together?

Yup, I'm not sure of the exact species of Otter or Rhino (I think the rhino might be something like the Greater One Horned Rhino ?) ... and I'm not sure if the enclosure is exactly "combined" or whether there is a barrier between them (might be difficult to keep the Otters in if they only had Rhino fencing to stop them!!

Here are some photos from back in 2004:

Got an e-mail from iain Valentine at Edinburgh zoo, the drill and the aye aye WILL be going into the gorilla house, oh the power of zoobeat, he asked if i had a tape recorder in his office (i wish).
The 9 gelada came from Rheine zoo, and the zoo are in contact with Madrid about taking their gaur.
I also asked him about potential new species for the zoo and hwp, and boy can i tell you what may be on its way, but out of respsect to Iain and the zoo i will ask his permission if i can tell you all.
All i will say is there is a new species for hwp which cannot be seen in Britain.
A species which cannot be seen in Europe for Edinburgh.
And a few exciting bird species that are very rare in captivity.
Go Iain Valentine!

Its somewtimes quite easy to predict what species are going to move into what enclosures- in this case it obviously made sense the Drills going into the ex Gorilla House. Do you know if they are going to try and add a couple more females to this Drill group anytime?

Geladas- do you know the sex ratio in that group?

western plains zoo doesnt mix otter with asian rhino-the two exhibits are completely seperate but because of the rustic architecture that links the two areas the otter exhibit forms a visual extension of sorts.
