Have heard nothing of this until now.
At least she wasnt shot as that would give Zoocheck and the like to go on and on about the rubbish they usually talk about.

I'm hoping that Dublin can continue on with elephant breeding, though it might be a while until there is another birth.

Not trying to be rude, are you aware of the Kaziranga Forest Trail?

How much bigger is the new elephant enclosure? Was it built on the site of the old one?

I don't believe so, the new elephant exhibit is 50% larger

Do you know where it is located in the zoo and what has been built on the site of the old elephant house and enclosure?

The new enclosure has been built over the old house and paddock plus some additional land.

To be honest I had suspected that from the photographs I'd seen. While the facilities are certainly a great improvement appear up to the standard of many refurbished or rebuilt elephant exhibits in zoos on the continent, I can't help but think they have the land to provide some grass paddock space for their elephants. You can extensively plant the boundaries and provide a soft substrate but it is still essentially a zoo enclosure, 1-2 acres of sand with a couple of pools. Maybe they will add some paddocks on as the young animals grow.
