Assuming it's still the same tapir, the London male is called Hutan (born at Dortmund Zoo, 1997?).
Hutan has already produced one offspring (the female Sayang now at Edinburgh) with his previous partner, Doris, who died in 2005, so he is able to breed.

I saw 2 malayans in zoo aquarium madrid last weekend. I think it was 1,1 but to be honest i didn´t really pay a lot of attention to them (gaur in the next enclosure...). What was interesting about the tapir was that they were combined with a male babirousa. They got along fine, the babirousa even whiped his ass against the back of a laying tapir, and it didn't mind.

Do you have any blindness problems with Malay tapirs in Europe?
Australian zoos are about to give up on keeping them because, slowly but surely, they go blind (and no-one is really certain why - lots of untested theories, though.)
