Tree kangaroos in Europe

I thought I be a little devious and transported Yassa's comments re Krefeld Zoo here from the Australian zoos thread. Hope you do not mind! I think the recent resurgence in interest in tree kangaroos in Europe deserves more in depth discussion!

Krefeld, Germany:

1. breeding pair:

1,0 Bud
0,1 Summer

both from San Diego, had a couple of joeys, among them

1,0 Wango * 2004 in Krefeld
0,1 Buna * 2006 in Krefeld

Wango is now paired with 0,1 Belisi, born in Melbourne in 2005 (not sure to which pair, probably Bagi x Timika since Loomy is the 2005 joey of Tapini)
So Krefeld has now 2 pairs, one old breeding pair and a young pair, plus one young female.

Dortmund has one young female and is said to get a male this sping (from where?)

Rumors are that Belfast and Wissel (zoo in the Netherlands) are to recieve tree kanagoos this year, not sure from where. One will probably get young female Buna from Krefeld.
On ISIS the totals for Dendrolagus goodfellowi are:
Beauval 2.2
Dortmund present does not list its inventory on ISIS
Frankfurt 2.1
Krefeld 2.2
Walsrode present does not list its inventory on ISIS (could be D. matschei)

I second Yassa's question: what is the source of the Dortmund female? Also I add on a few more: to my knowledge a joey each was born at Beauval and Krefeld. This is not reflected in the ISIS totals. Clarification, anyone?

Al, where will Belfast Zoo get its TKs from?

According to the german zoo-animal list Walsrode only holds Goodfellow's.

Al allready mentioned that there were 3 females (two young and one older one) on the surplus list and 3 males would be imported from the USA the coming year to accompany these... Who, what where and when i don't know yet though...

Tierbestände in Zoos und Tierparks

hit "suche" for the search option and enter the latin name if your not that common with the german language...

I really like the idea, wish they'd done it in English though perhaps even so that people would enter exact numbers if they knew them...

What I would like to know is:
How many and what sex are held at Vogelpark Walsrode?
Same counts for Dortmund: a single female?

Regarding the USA imports: 3.0?
The current ISIS listings are 2.2 at San Diego and these are the only ones over there ....

Surplus EEP: 0.3?
Beauval 2.2
Krefeld 2.3 (the second female has been repaired with a Melbourne male)
Frankfurt 2.1 (non-breeding)
Dortmund 0.1
Walsrode ?.?
Are we suggesting repairing male D. goodfellowi in Europe?
Are 0.1 each at Beauval, Krefeld and Frankfurt up for repairing?

Many questions still unanswered! Anyone can clarify these?

Hi Jelle,

I already answered the question who the new female in Dortmund is: name Lomi/Loomy, born in Melbourne in 2005. She was imported via Krefeld Zoo and then sent to Dortmund a few weeks later. I am just unsure where the male which is due to arrive in spring 2008 will come from, obviousley from the USA.

The 2 other "surplus" female TK which will probably go to Belfast and Wissel are the 2006 offspring from the old Krefeld pair, Buna, and the 2007 offspring from Beauval. The joey from Beauval is a female after what I have read in a french zoo forum, maybe ISIS is wrong on that.

Beauval has 2 females which were imported from San Diego in 2006 and one male. The joey born in 2007 is the first offspring of these animals. I am not aware where the male came from, and I do not know if all 3 are housed together. I guess they are.

The new pair in Krefeld is not a Krefeld born female with a Melbourne born male, but the other way around - the male Wango has been born in Krefeld and the female Belisi is from Melbourne.

I have no information about the TK in Frankfurt and Walsrode, unfortunately.

Where in Dortmund Zoo does she live? Has she moved into an existing enclosure, or is a new one built specially for tree kangaroos?

Thanks Yassa,

You have been a great help here. Great to have you around!
Do you know by any chance when the San Diego goodfellow's will arrive?

Does this also mean that the US SSP is definitely sending off all its Goodfellow's TK's to either the EEP or ARAZPA region?
Perhaps Al from Belfast can answer these???

For our Aussie friends:
Any chance also that a World Register of Goodfellow's TK's is forthcoming under the direction of either Currumbin or Melbourne?

As far as I know our female will be coming from Krefeld. As for the SSP going out of goodfellows I think this is correct though I'll get in touch with my friend at Beauval and find out what she knows. Is wissel the same as eppe? as i had heard they were to get one? Its great that youve started this thread!
