Megapodes and brush-turkies is very rare in captivity outside New Guinea/Australia.

One of the most attractive species is the Wattled Brush-turkey, its the most attractive species and Iw as quite suprised to see that it has been kept in captivity in Europe in recent years, its among the most threatend brush-turkies in the wild, and a species I have only heard a few times in the wild, none seen yet.

I would be interested to know in which European institutions this species has been kept in recent years, and which still keeps it. Aim going to Europe for a few days (for a conference) in June and would like to visit a place which keeps this species.

Pair was on display in Artis, Amsterdam until Apr. 2007, but not in autumn 2007 (off-exhibit? phased out?). Maybe Jelle knows more. Good candidate for the ugliest bird in the world for me.

Australian Brush Turkey Alectura lathami is not rare in Europe and readily builds mounds. One was spilling off into visitors' path in Berlin zoo in 2005.

Wattled is also in Poznan, Poland (new zoo) and off-exhibit in Walsrode.

Artis had only a male since 2006 and it got moved to Walsrode last year during summer. It's currently backstage but they plan to put it on exhibit along with a female.
Paradisio has a small group too.
Depends when you come, Sebbe, if you want to go to Walsrode, maybe we can meet there (depends on my work schedule and your schedule), as the curator is a good friend...

I've seen brush turkeys in Basel zoo on my last holiday.
for me it was the first time I "deliberately" saw them.

I'm a regular paradisio visitor and there I haven't seen them.
but that's quite possible since I'm not really a bird man.
Am going to pay close attention next time (which is, oh well, today )
