The Malagasy giant rat pair kept at giraffe house has twins born in late January.

We are 1 year later and new monkey exhibit is still not finished. But the construction site looks promising - it might be ready for the Rolloways in summer, I guess. A nice breeding pair destined for Jihlava is kept at Berlin and even managed to produce its first cub last year. Thus Jihlava will receive active and harmonious little group.

Fidji banded iguanas were bred again, this time 2 babies hatched and are probably both females.

The former seriema aviary saw change of species kept - now it hosts a pair of Vietnamese pheasants.

During 2023 and the beginning of 2024, a group of seven Spix's moustached tamarins (Saguinus mystax) was formed in Jihlava Zoo. Animals from Prague and Magdeburg have formed new pairs, but all animals are somehow related. This species is being phased out according to EAZA best practice guidelines.
On the plus side, you can see them in public display - instead of Cotton top tamarin (they are behind the scenes) and in the Amazon house.

Tuesday this week, Cotton-top tamarins were on display, opposite Pygmy hippo's enclosure.

I´d read remark that the curent birds of prey cages used for bird show are being rebuilt for small cats and the bird show wont return. Does anybody have any info?

EAZA has negative attitude towards exhibiting falconry in zoos. Although the show was popular, zoo keeps a large number of small cats in the off-show area - breeding groups of Amur leopard cat, Geoffroy's Cats, Caracals, Pallas's cat... I think it is quite a logical and correct decision.

The zoo confirmed to media that the bird show is discontinued. (It used to be ran by an external falconer with its own birds). The bird cages will be repurposed for small cats - Amur leopard cats and Geoffroy's cats will be exhibited there.

Rollowey monkeys are expected to arrive in April, their cage has been completed. The zoo is also building an outside cage for bambus lemurs within Matongo area - but it´s unbelievably ugly.

It seems to me like some sort of trend - Děčín, another small zoo (mostly located in the forest) and and some of its new "industrial" lookins cages and fences (contrasting with older ones, mostly natural materials or green wire-mesh)
Is it cheaper? Or easier to maintain?

The zoo received a young male cassowary from Selwo Aventura Estepona.

Repair works at walk-though waterfowl aviary Delta Paraná ended and birds has been released inside again. The zoo mentions Red shoveler, Ringed teal and Rosy-billed pochard.

The former seal exhibit got a new inhabitant - a handicaped Mute swan that arrived from wildlife rescue station in Pavlov. (there is also carp fish swimming in the pool). Underwhelming solution for this empty sitting place.

The anacondas went to Prague Zoo (female) and Litomyšl (male), they grew out of their exhibition. Terrarium is now being transformed for Roti Island snake-necked turtle (6 animals are waiting off-show) and some additional species.
